The Challenge

Two websites, one confused patient

HCG's online presence was split across two websites. Both did the job, but neither made it easy. A patient looking for an oncologist, a nearby centre, or treatment details had to first work out which site to visit.

Then came the navigation. It followed the hospital’s internal structure. Patients think in questions. Where is the nearest centre? Who treats this cancer? What does treatment involve?

In healthcare, every extra click delays care.

  • Two separate websites: Content, journeys, and visual design were divided between two platforms.
  • Hard-to-follow navigation: The structure made key information difficult to find.
  • Usability gaps: The overall experience had clear room for improvement on every device.
  • Inconsistent experience: Two sites meant two ways of presenting one hospital network.

THE SOLUTION

A single front door to HCG’s care

01

One website, designed around patient questions

Specbee replaced HCG's two websites (oncology + multi-speciality) with a single, modern site. The design started from a clean slate, shaped by how patients and families look for care.

  • Designed the complete UI/UX for the new website
  • Prioritized usability, so common tasks take fewer steps
  • Built accessibility into the design from the start
  • Created one consistent visual language across every page and service line
02

AI-powered search across the site

This was the centrepiece. A hospital network’s website holds a lot of information: doctors, centres, specialities and treatments. Patients need the right piece of it fast.

Example: A patient types “breast cancer specialist Bengaluru.” The search returns HCG’s breast oncologists in Bengaluru, the nearest centres, and the treatment page, all in one place.

  • Implemented an AI-powered search experience across the full website
  • Helps users quickly find relevant information, wherever it sits
  • Surfaces results from all the consolidated content in one place
  • Set up for ongoing refinement based on user feedback and search behavior`

A cleaner information architecture

A cleaner information architecture

Two sites' worth of content needed one logical home. We restructured it around what people come looking for.

  • Region-based content personalization
  • Consolidated content from both existing websites into one platform
  • Reorganized it into a streamlined, intuitive hierarchy
  • Rebuilt the site structure and navigation so content sits where people expect it
  • Removed the guesswork of which site or section holds the answer

Built for every screen, tuned for speed and reach

Built for every screen, tuned for speed and reach

Patients reach HCG from phones, tablets, and desktops. The build had to work well on all of them and perform well in search.

  • Developed responsive layouts optimized for desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Implemented the required website functionality and forms
  • Connected the integrations and third-party services HCG relies on
  • Improved website performance, accessibility and SEO

Tested at every stage, supported through launch

Tested at every stage, supported through launch

Quality assurance ran through the whole project, from the first build to launch day. Every release moved through a structured testing process.

  • Ran functional, responsive, cross-browser, integration and content testing
  • Validated key user journeys, navigation, forms, and third-party integrations
  • Tested across development and UAT environments
  • Documented, assigned, fixed, and retested every issue before release
  • Incorporated client UAT feedback and completed final validation and approval
  • Provided deployment support and post-launch monitoring for a smooth transition

Ongoing support and optimization

Ongoing support and optimization

Launch day was a milestone. Specbee continues to support HCG with ongoing maintenance and optimization:

  • Monitoring the site so it keeps running smoothly, and fixing issues as they surface
  • Supporting content updates and new enhancements
  • Tracking performance and finding room to optimize further
  • Refining the AI-powered search based on user feedback and search behavior
  • Providing technical support for integrations and third-party services
  • Planning future improvements together with HCG's team

BACKGROUND

HCG Hospitals runs one of India’s largest cancer care networks. 25+ hospitals. 20+ cities. Oncology and multispecialty care under one name. Patients come to HCG online for three things: a doctor, a centre, or a treatment. Until recently, they had to search two separate websites to find them.

Specbee designed and built one consolidated Drupal platform. It has a cleaner structure, one visual identity, and AI-powered search that takes patients straight to answers.

HCG had seen our delivery record on large, complex Drupal builds. Healthcare is familiar ground for us. We unified eight hospital websites for Aster Hospitals in India and work with Altru Health System and Kingman Regional Medical Center in the US.

HCG was already on Drupal 11.3.9. This project was about rethinking the experience on top of a current platform, from structure and design to how people search.

KEY INSIGHT

The AI-powered search was the standout moment of the project.

It was new ground for the team: taking AI out of the lab and into a live hospital website, where real patients rely on the answers. Getting it right meant learning fast and testing carefully. It was a valuable learning experience for the team and one of the project's defining highlights.

The Results

The site launched recently (September, 2026). Traffic, engagement, bounce rate and search usage need three to four months to show meaningful trends. We’ll share those numbers when they do. Here’s what changed on day one.

MetricBeforeAfter
Web presence Two separate websites One consolidated Drupal website
Navigation Information was hard to find Restructured architecture built around user journeys
Finding information Users had to know which site and section to check AI-powered search across the whole website
Design Two inconsistent experiences One consistent, accessible visual system
Devices Room for improvement on usability Responsive layouts for desktop, tablet and mobile
