THE CHALLENGE
Eight hospitals, eight different experiences
Aster Hospitals operates across the Middle East and India with a large network of regional facilities. Eight separate websites had no shared foundation, and the brand experience varied depending on which hospital site you landed on.
- Eight separate regional websites, brought together under one top-level domain, each hospital keeping its own page
- Regional marketing teams needed the ability to create and update their own pages without full developer dependency
- Search needed to work across hospital needs, so visitors could find a specific doctor or location quickly
- The brand needed a fresh, cohesive look that stood out from competitors and reflected Aster's scale
THE SOLUTION
One brand, one domain, eight hospitals — and the component library that keeps it all manageable
Unified domain architecture and brand identity
Specbee brought all eight regional hospital sites together under a single top-level domain, with each hospital keeping its own page, and applied a new brand identity consistently across all properties.
- Eight regional hospital sites unified under one top-level domain
- Each hospital retains its own dedicated page
- New UI/UX design reflecting Aster's brand identity
Custom component library for regional independence
A curated library of custom components was built for Aster's page needs, using Drupal 9 modules including Paragraphs, Claro, and Media, so regional marketing teams could create and update pages themselves without relying on developers for routine changes.
- Custom component library built with Paragraphs, Claro, and Media modules
- Component-based page building for regional marketing teams
- Reduced developer dependency for routine page updates
Unified search across all hospitals and services
Search was custom-developed and combined with Apache SOLR for performance, with faceted search so visitors can quickly find a specific doctor or hospital location across the network.
- Custom search built with Apache SOLR
- Faceted search for finding a doctor or hospital location
- Search working across the unified hospital network
Research-driven design process
Before design work began, the team ran competitive analysis and customer questionnaires to understand what Aster's target patients were looking for. That research fed a three-step design process, from pencil sketches through wireframes to final visual design.
- Competitive analysis and customer questionnaires
- Three-step design process: sketching, wireframing, final design
- Front-end team built the theme and components on top of the research
Seamless data migration without disrupting patient access
Moving data from eight existing hospital websites onto the new top-level domain required care, since interrupting traffic during the switch would mean patients losing access to hospital information mid-migration. The transition was handled to keep traffic flowing without interruption.
- Data migrated from all eight existing hospital websites to the new domain
- Traffic flow preserved throughout the migration
- Smooth transition with no reported disruption to the user experience
BACKGROUND
Aster Hospitals' challenge is one that large healthcare networks face as they grow: digital properties built independently at different times, by different teams, with no shared foundation. The user experience reflected the organization's history rather than its current identity.
KEY INSIGHT
The component library was what made the platform sustainable.
Unifying eight hospital sites under one domain is a technical achievement. Giving regional teams the tools to keep those sites current independently is what makes it viable over the long term.
The Results
A healthcare network with a digital presence that matches its scale
Eight sites unified, regional independence preserved, search working network-wide.
